Systems Engineering Requirements, Concept and Design

 

We perform prototype development and agnostic system integration of commercial off the shelf (COTS) and Government off the shelf (GOTS) equipment, creating a “system of systems” for JPdL RND. We are building, determining and analyzing overall system reliability, maintainability, and characteristics of multiple components to develop a new prototype system that can move to full-rate production (FRP) and create a new detection capability for the U.S. Army warfighter. 

The ultimate objective of this prototype effort is to ensure that the MRDS components are fully integrated into an interoperable system that is ready for the required test events and capable of receiving a positive Full-Rate Production (FRP) decision. Our support led to expediting the integration schedule by coordinating with various OEMs to ensure key performance parameters are met to eventually move the MRDS into Low and Full-Rate Production ahead of schedule.

Engineering Change Proposals

 

Pocket J enables airborne platforms equipped with SADL and Link-16 to exchange tactical data, thus merging dissimilar systems into a single tactical picture. Pocket J provides Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) forwarding of the air picture, increasing situational awareness and decreasing tactical reaction time. Pocket J is comprised of three (3) ground-based elements connected by multiple communications paths, which ensures continuity of operations where our team will maintain the system through several engineering change proposals. 

Our services include program management, engineering, government-furnished equipment (GFE) management, maintenance support (help desk, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance), line replaceable unit repair, cybersecurity, completion of block cycle and software upgrades, and training.

This complex and changing program required us to manage the Air Combats Command requirements. Our team provided the Pocket J project with engineering changes that were accomplished on affected material in accordance with approved Engineering Change Proposals. This resulted in completing critical radio upgrades ahead of schedule, with engineering change proposals supporting the fielding and refurbishment of all equipment while engineering the solution for the PJ 3.0 remote rekey capability.

Integrated Logistics Support

As the contractor responsible for running DCRF we analyze data to deliver insights to all phases of the equipment refresh (inventory and inspection, refresh, and recertification) through all refresh cycles. We provide logistics, procurement, sustainment, and training for COTS CBRNE equipment and services supporting the CBRNE Response Element.

We instituted annual “trend analysis” reviews with the government that take into consideration of usage rates, consumption rates, vendor lead items which provides our customers with the data needed to manage program risks effectively. This provided shortened turn-around time, faster equipment repairs and timely replacement actions, resulting in increased mission-critical equipment operational availability of 99% (12 month rolling average).

As one of the most diverse engineering and scientific research organizations in the world, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) headquartered in Vicksburg, MS, is a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Center and a part of the Army’s premier Research and Development (R&D) organization. Our INTERFUZE personnel provided support at four labs located in Vicksburg (Information Technology (ITL), Environmental, Geotechnical and Structures, and Coastal and Hydraulic) as well as labs located in other geographic locations (the Construction Engineering Research Lab in Champaign, IL, and the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab in Hanover, NH).

Our personnel developed the Universal Interface Toolkit (UIT) designed using web services to access the High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems. The UIT is a web service written in JAVA which performed actions on the HPC systems in a secure manner and provided the ability to write applications from many different programming languages. The functions offered through the web service reduced complexity of dealing with the HPC systems and provided a cost-saving to the client. The TDP was maintained in accordance with applicable standards and item descriptions.
